Domaine Les Grands Presbyteres Tradition Muscadet Sevre & Maine Sur Lie 2014, Loire, France

Delightful, traditionally made Muscadet from the star of the region.

Crisp, flinty notes with a hint of lime on the nose. Pear and apple on the palate. Smooth texture with freshness and complexity.

Domaine les Grands Presbytères is based in St Fiacre, southeast of Nantes, at the mouth of the beautiful River Loire and was established by Nelly Marzelleau's grandfather in the 1950's. Due to the high proportion of flint in the soil, St Fiacre is considered one of the best sites for Muscadet Sèvre et Maine.

Nelly Marzellau runs the estate and is passionate about what she does. She qualified in vinification and winemakeing top of her class and completed her first vinification in 1985, aged 18. The winery is in the best sub-region between the rivers Sevre and Maine, where the soils are layered with 'orthogneiss', a cracked mineral rich rock. Wines are made from vines close to 50 years in age - a rarity in the area as most are dug up after 40 years. All of her wine is bottled 'sur lie' ensuring prolonged contact with fine lees, enhancing the overall richness. The depth of flavour from these wines is amazing!

Try this with shellfish on ice - a revelation.
