If you are looking for wine made from grapes that are trodden by foot - read on!

Deep purple in colour with plenty of black fruit character on the nose and touches of raspberries and ripe plums. Medium bodied on the palate with smooth, ripe tannins, juicy black fruit flavours and a long, succulent finish.

All the Quinta do Infantado vineyards are class A (the best in the Douro Valley). The grapes for the Douro Red are grown in the Serra Douro and Serra de Cotas vineyards which are situated at 350m and 250m above sea level and cover 9 hectares in total. Soils here are schistous. The grapes are always hand-picked.

The grapes were partially destemmed before treading by foot in the traditional lagars, a hallmark of Quinta do Infantado wines.

Fermentation is long at Infantado, producing drier wines. Malolactic fermentation took place in tank after which some of the wine was aged in tank and some in oak barrel of various sizes and ages.

The Quinta do Infantado wines and Ports are grown, made and bottled at the Quinta (Estate), located near Pinhão, at an altitude of 150 metres above sea level, in the sub-region of Gontelho. This winery was established in 1816 by D. Pedro IV, the Portuguese crown heir, as a winery was needed to collect taxes, which were then paid in grapes or wine.
