If you wanted to sum up this wine in one line, it would be 'Spectacular value for money'.

Winemaker Jean Christophe Barbe is the Professor of Oenology at the University of Bordeaux, so he knows what he is doing. His red grapes are grown on a plot called Mahon, hence the name of the wine.

A blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine is a real eye-opener - startlingly good at this price.

One of the earliest harvests in Bordeaux history (beginning in the second half of August) delivered historically low yields, but what quality! This wine is full of ripe fruit but also has a delicious, serious, grown-up tannic grip so typical of quality Bordeaux.

Aged for 12 months in wood, the wine is densely dark red, a classic Claret nose, ripe fruit on the palate but with that grip that reminds you that you're drinking serious red Bordeaux.
