Fragrant and characterful red, great in winter with stews and the like - a particular favourite with game, especially venison. The grapes are grown in Rotaliano, an allucial plain beside the Adige river in the very north of Italy.

On the nose the primary aroma is ripe and rich fruit - stewed prunes and blackcurrant. On the palate, a bit more red fruit with a hint of spice, and some detect a suggestion of tar, pine and almonds - it's great stuff.

A touch of snappy acidity, a little bit like a Ribera del Duero in this regards, makes it an especially good, versatile food wine.
