We have sourced this class-leading Soave at an excellent price, and we are pleased to pass on the saving to our customers - we think we are the most competitive price on the web.

The Pieropan family has been producing wines in Soave since the 1860s and were the first producer to bottle a wine with the name Soave on the label, in the early 1930s.

The family have been flag-bearers for the Soave DOC for several decades, sometimes swimming against a tide of often less than adequate wines.

The continued success of Pieropan is generally ascribed to Leonildo junior and his attention to detail in the vineyard is a significant factor in this. The family now own more than 30 hectares of vines, which see spur pruning and crop thinning to control yields, and only organic fertiliser.

Our experience of Pieropan's wines suggests that this is an estate very much worth knowing, especially if you appreciate characterful, incisive and individually-styled white wines.

Even the bottles are striking and stylish with an elegant, tall, tapered appearance reminiscent of Alsace or German wines.

On the nose it is somewhat pungent at first, but is really loaded with minerals and fresh fruit character, with a lemon citrus streak giving way to a richer style of sweeter fruit. On the palate, polished and well-defined with real substance, subtle acidity providing an attractive backbone. There's a slight tingle, too - full, punchy but with the slight restraint of a high-quality white wine. Lovely to drink now but we also think this has real cellaring potential.
