Duboscq Claret AC 2014, Bordeaux, France

Duboscq Claret AC 2014, Bordeaux, France

RRP: £10.49
Bottle Price: £9.99

Made by the Duboscq family who own Ch Haut Marbuzet. Claret has suffered in recent years from over-production of wines which are not very fashionable on todays' world market. Too often we see dry, dusty young Claret lacking fruit and character. Duboscq Claret is the polar opposite of this. Young, yes. But full of fruit and vitality - the very essence of what good, everyday drinking Claret should be - fresh 'n fruity Claret from a forward-thinking estate with an enviable reputation for producing consistent quality and flavour year on year, whatever the elements throw at them.

The Duboscq family are one of the "Wild Geese" of Bordeaux, descended from the Irish McCarthy family, Catholic Jacobites who settled in Bordeaux in the 17th Century.

The "Wild Geese" included the Lynch family of Lynch Bages fame and the Browns of Cantenac Brown to name but two.

The second wine of Haut Marbuzet is named McCarthy in honour of the Duboscqs' forefathers. Hervé Duboscq purchased 7 hectares of land in St Estephe in 1952 and today, the vineyard holdings are ten times that, including the highly rated Chateau Haut Marbuzet, situated next to Ch Monrose, Ch Lafite Rothschild and literally right behind Ch Cos d'Estournel. In the 2003 Cru Bourgeois classification, Ch Haut Marbuzet was elevated to "Cru Bourgeois Exceptionelle" - an honour only awarded to 9 out of the 247 Chateaux - deserved recognition for the investement and sheer hard work of Henri Duboscq and his sons over the past 50 years.
