About the Producer

Château Berjuquey, one of Bordeaux's most consistent estates, is situated in Mérignas in the Gironde. M. Bonnefin is the vigneron owner, having inherited his grandparents' passion for growing vines. He manages his vineyards sustainably, working with Entres-Deux-Mers co-operative Cave de Rauzan to produce the wines.

Responsible for 3,500 hectares of vineyards, 350 winemakers, and 45 employees of its own, it is no mean feat that Caves de Rauzan has been cited as one of very few French companies to be AFNOR certified as having an “exemplary” standard of corporate social responsibility. This three star award is the result of a process started in 2009, since when it has taken a sustainable approach to the environmental, social and societal impact of its practices, its relationship with its stakeholders (customers, members, employees, suppliers etc.), and its mode of management. It was the first and currently the only wine-making company in Bordeaux formally labelled “Sustainable Winegrowing of France"

75% of its vineyards have been awarded HVE 3 certification and all of the vineyards are certified Agriconfiance. Societally, Caves de Rauzan encourages and trains its members in organic and eco-responsible viticulture, it supports young farmers, it offers a guarantee of traceability, and it maintains a local purchasing rate of more than 80%. The cellar recovers and recycles 99% of its waste, and it has also created wastewater treatment plants on each of its three sites. 85% of bottles are lightened and all are made of recycled glass.

Vineyard and Winery

The estate is owned by Dominique Martin whose father-in-law was one of the founder members of Cave de Rauzan. She continues to take her grapes to the Cave to be vinified. Fermentation is in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats equipped with a micro-oxygenation system and the wine is unoaked.
